Useless Bay Sanctuary
Code of Conduct
This document outlines the code of conduct expected for all persons volunteering their services to Useless Bay Sanctuary, working under the direction of the Board of Directors. It covers expected behavior as a volunteer, in any forum, emailing, social media posts, and in person representation. Becoming a volunteer and signing the Volunteer Application / Information form acknowledges your agreement to adhere to the code of conduct.
Do what is in the best interest of the dog:
Above all our goal is to do what is in the best interest of the dog; abiding by state / county laws. To safely capture a loose dog and work to reunite it with its previous owner. If you become aware of a loose dog in need, a member of the board needs to be contacted before the dog can be considered a UBS dog. All medical care must be approved by a board member.
Communication:
Often our communication is time sensitive and concerns the needs of a UBS dog. If you are asked to respond to a question or give advice it is expected that you do so in a timely manner. All emails, texts and calls you receive should be responded to.
Accepting Projects:
UBS counts on the commitments made by the volunteers. If you volunteer for a project and are no longer able to or need help to complete the project, reach out and let us know as soon as possible. Often other volunteers are willing to help.
Offer ideas
If you have an idea that you think will benefit the UBS dogs and help us meet our goals, don’t hesitate to suggest it for the board to consider. Some of the best ideas come from the volunteers.
Be Considerate:
You are working with others as a team so be considerate and mindful of how your actions and words affects your fellow team members and UBS as a whole.
Be Respectful
Treat one another and members of the community with respect. We may not always agree, but disagreement is no excuse for poor behavior or manners.
Conflict Resolution
When you have a disagreement with another volunteer, try to work it out directly with that person. Disagreements, debate and constructive criticism should be done in a respectful manner privately, via email, phone or in person and not in a public forum. If resolution cannot be found between two parties, then it needs to be brought to the attention of the board.
Leaving UBS as a Volunteer
When you are no longer able to volunteer your time and need to resign, we ask that you send an email so that we can update our records. Unfortunately at times, it will be necessary for UBS to ask a volunteer to leave their position because they are not following the Code of Conduct or representing Useless Bay Sanctuary in a professional manner. We hope that when volunteers leave they will still support our goal of doing what is in the best interest of the dog and not speak negatively about the organization or volunteers.
